Pastor Robert Blake, 55, of St. Luke AME Church in Highland Park is among the ones who lead the prayers for a dozen preachers and parishioners who gathered at noon today at Bethany Baptist Church in Detroit to pray for a high voter turnout. “We’re praying for voter mobilization. We’re praying for voter turnout. We’re praying against the spirit of apathy and depression in Detroit,” said the Rev. David Bullock, pastor of Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church in Highland Park. Bullock said ministers are holding noon hour prayers in cities throughout Detroit to encourage residents to get out and vote. He said the prayer circles are the culmination of eight days of prayer leading up to Election Day. Bullock added that the effort that he helped organize is part of a new movement to help empower people through prayer and political activism.
